I'm also curious about this. We know that Speaking Rain is blind, but I'm not sure some little girls would realize that.
If AG continues to trend of making friend dolls for each American girl. We are under the assumption that Speaking Rain would be Kaya's friend, now what I was wondering is what color eyes would Speaking Rain have. From the illustrations in the book it looks like she has clouded eyes. Would AG make a new set of eyes that reflect this? Would they alter her eyes the way they altered Elizabeth? I am also curious as to the appeal (no offense) but think about it from a little girls perspective. Just a thought that popped into my head while talking about Best friend dolls.

I would prefer they clouded her eyes to stay true to the character, but I don't think they would. They would want the dolls to be marketable aside from their stories. If you didn't read Kaya's stories, you wouldn't understand the cloudy eyes. Does that make any sense?
Sadly, I doubt that Josefina or Kaya will get Best Friend dolls. They're not as "marketable" as the dolls they've done so far. I'm hoping and hoping that they'll make Harriet for Addy, but even that probably won't happen.
They could make a Speaking Rain with leftover silver eye! Just think of the savings...all those silver eyes just sitting there in the Hospital, waiting to be used!

I love the silver eye idea! Actually, if they got silvered eyes they might look pretty nifty.
I think the main reason AG might ever make a Speaking Rain doll would be to avoid accusations of racism. It's not fair if all the Caucasian girls (except the unloved Kirsten ) get best friends, but the Native American girl doesn't. I doubt AG WOULD do such a thing, since they probably wouldn't make much of a profit. But it might give them good PR.

Oh well, just leave it to me to voice the silly and borderline offensive ideas!
In all seriousness, my sole sibling is deaf from birth. In my family, we take physical challenges seriously, but we also recognize the need to live life with a sense of humor.
I really do think that a vaguely silver-eyed Speaking Rain could be a cherished doll. I know my DD would treasure a doll like that. Our wheelchair-bound Ana gets lots of love from DD. She's atypical in many ways, though; don't know if other little girls could appreciate the clouded eyes. Realistically speaking, I don't think Speaking Rain will ever get made.

i really hope that they do make a Speaking Rin doll. My daughters first doll was Kaya and she says once they make Speaking Rain she can be done buying dolls. I know that's a long shot but she would really love a Speaking Rain doll.
It always surprises me that Kaya isn't more popular, even here on the board. My daughter wanted her from the first time she laid eyes on her in the catalog and it twoo about two years before we go her. Of course she loves Kit just as much since she bought her with her own money.
